This interview with Gwendaline Bachini, Dance and New Media Artist, award-winning XR Director from France took place during the PREMIERE Open Day in Saint-Étienne on October 14, 2024.
The collaboration began on September 13, 2024, at Université Jean Monnet (UJM) with the remarkable performance “Spiritus Mundi” by Carla Cardinale and Frédéric Tavernini, under Gwendaline Bachini’s artistic direction. The performance mixes dance, film, and creative coding using volumetric video for interactive dance. It presents a poetic utopia inspired by nature and the plant world, with AI linking the user to nature to create a shared destiny.
During the next stage, the PREMIERE Open Day in October 2024, Gwendaline conducted a MoCap session with CYENS, one of PREMIERE’s technological partners, using Rokoko suits. Gwendaline shared how this collaboration allowed her to explore accessible motion capture technologies and revealed her motivation for experimenting with technology in dance. She emphasized her guiding principle: “Technology needs to be embedded within the subject of the artwork.”
